History of the Firm
March 31, 1958 was a significant date for Bach, James, Mansour & Company, P.C.
That was the day that two young CPAs announced to the Atlanta business community
the formation of a new partnership, Bach & James, CPAs. The principals of this
new entity were Milton L. Bach and Truitt D. James. Both had worked together
at a local CPA firm, Young, Garber and Company, and then gone their separate ways.
Subsequently, when T. D. James decided that the time was right to form a new accounting firm,
he called his friend Milton Bach, and the association was complete.
The firm name was decided by a coin toss.
As business grew and the need for an accounting staff became evident, the two principals
made a decision that shaped the firm's future direction. They decided that in order to
retain good people, it was necessary to offer them an ownership interest in the business.
Consequently, the early sixties saw the addition to the firm of George E. Brown and George A. Mansour III.
Subsequent additions as principals in the firm were Grady R. Allen in 1978, Neal J. Bach in 1986,
and James R Lunsford, Jr. in 1995, all of whom remain with the firm today.
The firm suffered an emotional and financial blow on June 11, 1980 with the early demise from cancer
of a founding member, Truitt D. James. To honor his memory the firm retains his name to the present time.
In 1983 the corporate name was expanded to include the name of George A. Mansour III, in recognition
of his contributions to the firm.
Milton L. Bach, the other founding partner, retired from active participation in the firm on April 30, 1997.
Although no longer involved in the continuing operations of the firm, his advice and counsel are still
actively solicited and appreciated.
During its long history, the firm has rented facilities at several locations, beginning with an office
at 1182 W. Peachtree Street, a building that has now fallen victim to Atlanta's penchant for ever larger
edifices. The need for more commodious quarters soon necessitated a move to 1401 Peachtree Street which
served the firm's needs to 1967. At that time the principals decided that the firm's future would best
be served by moving to the financial center of the city, the new First National Bank Tower downtown at
Five Points. These facilities served the firm's needs for 15 years. Then for a variety of reasons,
including growing client resistance to going downtown, the firm moved to 57 Executive Park South and is now
located at 3885 Crestwood Pkwy in Duluth.
George A. Mansour III and George E. Brown still remain active with the firm handling client responsibilities.
The firm is now under the leadership of its principals Neal J. Bach, Grady R. Allen and James R. Lunsford, Jr.
Bach, James, Mansour & Company, P. C. continues on bringing new ideas, new enthusiasms and new direction
to a firm with a solid background of accomplishments.
